Malls Culture in Jakarta

This e’X center is also known as Entertainment X’nter. It is located in Menteng and it is an upscale shopping mall directly beside the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta. Here is mostly a paradise for young shoppers like young adults and teenagers. This mall has a special design by Denton Corker Marshall that features a deconstructivism architecture. From far you can see the yellow, red, blue, orange square-shaped buildings at various angles connected with a bridge. It is linked to Plaza Indonesia commonly known as PI. PI is the first high end shopping mall since 1990. If you are near the selamat datang statue, you will definitely not missed Plaza Indonesia. It also holds regularly photography exhibition, photo contest, special wedding offers other than ‘Lovecoustic’ on every Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 to 9pm. DJ are also invited to perform at Deluxe House on every Thursdays to Sundsay from 4 to 8pm.

Grand Indonesia Shopping Town

Managed by Jones Lang Lasalle, Grand Indonesia Shopping Town is a complex with mixed uses. Beside the five stared Hotel Indonesia, you can find a shopping mall within. There are the Kempinski Residences designed by RTKL architects and the tallest 56-story high office tower Menara BCA as well. This shopping town has three specialized districts and a multilevel bridge. To get to this eight levels shopping town, you can take the monorail or the MRT. Nearest stations are Tanah Abang Station and Bundaran HI station respectively. This complex is owned by a Djarum, a major clove cigarette company that is the second largest after HM Sampoerna. The owner is Oei Wie Gwan, an overseas Chinese.

Another upscale shopping mall is Plaza Senayan in the Semanggi area. You can find many high-end shops from gourmet food to designer goods. Fashionistas, hip youngsters, young shoppers other than the expatriates loves the excellent facilities here. This three-storey mall has a central location. Two interconnected department stores, on the right Metro and the right Sogo. Times Bookstore being the largest,  Books Kinokuniya being Indonesia’s second largest foreign bookstore is here. There are designer boutiques on the ground floor and casual wear on the second floor. Food and entertainment is on the third with Crystal Jade flagship outlet is here. Parking is never a problem with the five-story parking garage. Check out the Marygold Clock which is a large musical clock by Seiko. Be pleasantly amazed by the six golden figures serenade you with magical melodies.
